Breakfast at Jack & Benny’s
Since Ohio State had not officially started classes yet (and won’t do so for at least another three weeks), I decided to give Jack & Benny’s a try. Located on the corner of Hudson and High Streets, I hadn’t been to Jack & Benny’s for quite some time. Despite the heavy road construction on High Street and the uncertainty as to where to park (having been towed on campus once before makes me a little gun-shy), we finally found ourselves waiting in line for a table at the landmark diner. I quickly learned that you write your name and the number in your party on a list just inside the doorway. From there, you can either choose to wait outside or in the adjacent “waiting” area to the right.
By the way, if you are wondering about the headline, this should explain it:
“Breakfast served all day”
So if you go there after 3:00 pm, pack a sandwich cause they ain’t open despite
what da sign sayz.
And the waiting list was long as there were at least a dozen parties ahead of us. Quite a few people bailed and we were seated sooner than we would have been. By the way, the waiting list is also for the counter/bar seats as well. We still waited a good 45 minutes.
Denver Omelette at Jack & Benny’s
I gave the Denver Omelette a try which was sausage, tomatoes, green peppers and onions as I recall. It was tasty, nothing fancy, but reliable. We were served soon after we ordered and the waitress was friendly. The coffee was good but perhaps bordering on a little overdone. After we were seated, they got us in and out fairly quickly. I’m not sure if it was worth the wait. You may be better off visiting on a weekday especially when all the students are back in town.
Eggs and toast waiting on corned beef hash
I also tried a side of corned beef hash – this was definitely a bit overdone. I’m not sure that there are too many other breakfast spots on campus and this may explain the high demand for seating in addition to the huge emphasis on the Buckeye decor.

Here’s my thoughts on New Taco Tao:
“I drove over here after reading about it on the web. It’s a really dirty truck with a really dirty table. Forget it. ”
On the other hand, Taquikin Taqueria y Loncheria Movil, which is actually on Morse Rd, I said:
“Went back tonight for a couple more taco pastors and an order of refried beans. And tried the roasted jalapenos. They weren’t as hot as I imagined. Also had an orange soda. Very good food. Highly recommended!”
