I found myself in Philadelphia and a guest for dinner at the General Warren Inne so why not review it at the same time. Nothing like a working vacation especially when fine dining is involved. Not only was fine dining involved but a history lesson as well. Turns out the General Warren Inne has been around, in various forms, since 1745. Its varied history includes serving as a loyalist stronghold during the American Revolution where Torys met, drew maps and plotted against the revolutionaries. Their website has substantial information on the storied history of the Inne from its beginnings until the present time.
Colossal Crab Meat Cocktail
I started dinner with the Colossal Crab Meat Cocktail – citrus vinaigrette,
avocado, jicama and micro herb salad. As some may recall, I’ve had a bad history with
the “colossal” dishes of the world, so I approached the Colossal Crab Meat
Cocktail with a bit of trepidation. I have to admit that it started out rather slow and
bland until I took a bit of the micro herb salad with the crab. Of course this was a
neophyte move on my part and I’m glad I corrected it. This dish is supposed to be
eaten together and not in separate parts. And we were off to a good start at the
General’s.
Salmon Terrine
My dining companion began her meal with the Salmon Terrine, a special that evening which is not on the regular menu. While she raved about it, I found it a bit too cream cheesy for my taste. It was still very well presented and the salmon was spot on fresh.
GRILLED WHITE MARBLE PORK TENDERLOIN with roasted poblano pepper relish and sweet
potato hash
My main course was the Grilled White Pork Tenderloin. I came to this decision after much debate as several other dishes looked equally appealing including the Steak au Poivre, Lobster Seafood Paella, and Pan Seared Halibut. I made a very fine choice as the tenderloin was done just right and well complimented by the poblano relish and potato hash.
Sauteed Dover Sole with toasted almond amaretto beurre blanc
I probably should have ordered the Dover Sole. This may have been the highlight of everything our party of ten tried. The toasted almond amaretto beurre blance sauce went perfectly with the sole resulting in a wonderful dining experience. If you go, this is the dish to try.
Creme Brulee
Of course, I’m a sucker for Creme Brulee and the General did not disappoint as he employed real vanilla beans just like our friends at Boca.
Double Truffle Chocolate Cake
The Double Truffle Chocolate Cake with white and dark chocolate truffle layered on moist
chocolate cake served with crème angaise and chocolate sauce, chocolate covered frozen
banana with hazelnuts was as good as it looks and then some.

Here’s my thoughts on New Taco Tao:
“I drove over here after reading about it on the web. It’s a really dirty truck with a really dirty table. Forget it. ”
On the other hand, Taquikin Taqueria y Loncheria Movil, which is actually on Morse Rd, I said:
“Went back tonight for a couple more taco pastors and an order of refried beans. And tried the roasted jalapenos. They weren’t as hot as I imagined. Also had an orange soda. Very good food. Highly recommended!”
