Fish and Chips in London-town - this is cod flavored variety photoed
here
I guess you gotta try the staples of a particular region when you find yourself there. So
bring on the fish and chips! After visiting Westminster Abbey, we were all a bit
famished and looking for some eats. We came across Subway but what’s the point?
You can get that in plain old Columbus. As a matter of fact, there were quite a few
Subway sandwich shops in London. After some searching, we found “The Laughing
Halibut.”
The Laughing Halibut, 38 Strutton Ground, London - Fish & Chip Shops near
St. James’s Park Tube Station
The Laughing Halibut advertised the best traditional fish and chips. I should’ve asked what differentiated “traditional” fish and chips from their modern counterparts. Perhaps some wise soul will enlighten me or maybe I’ll google it at some point.
With a meal of fish and chips, it seems that some beer should be in order or on order. But the Halibut merely scoffed and snickered at the suggestion. So I had water. You can get a variety of fish in your fish and chips - not just cod as is the mainstay. The Halibut also fried up chicken as well which seemed really odd to me.
Vinegar was the condiment of choice at the table to go with the meal. We had to ask for some tartar sauce. Their catsup was quite a bit different than the Heinz I’m familiar with.
How were the fishes and chips? Here’s one satisfied customer
Apparently the Halibut makes it customers happy as well. In the end, I didn’t understand all the hullaballoo over fish and chips and I couldn’t see myself eating it on a regular basis. I do imagine that it sure beats hamburgers and fries. Well, at least McDonald’s and BK Lounge and maybe Wendy’s too. Hey, when in Rome . . .
