Caprese Salad at Cardone’s
After all the hype in the Columbus Dishrag, err, uhh, I mean Dispatch, I had to head on over to Cardone’s at 377 W. Main St. in Westerville, Ohio. Apparently, many other customers were there as a result of the Dispatch review as well. It looks like Jared R from Nothing Better to Do beat me to Cardone’s. I got scooped! He must have read the Dispatch review as well. Why go Italian and eat vegetarian? That seem like a conflict of interest to me, Jared. It’s like going to a bar and drinking O’Doul’s. Relax man, it’s all in good fun.
Hey, even the Dishrag took its sweet time in getting this story. Cardone’s has been
open since February. By the way, did I mention that finerepast.com is so famous that it
was the subject of a bandwidth attack today? I’ve blocked (probably only
temporarily) the perpetrators. They were trying to take finerepast.com down but they
didn’t know who they were messin’ with. Probably some punks from Smith
& Wollensky’s or Buca di Crappo or Bag O’Nails (btw, bring a
sandwich).
We began with the Caprese Salad which I found delightful. The mozzarella could have been
a little fresher but overall a good start.
Italian Sausage and Peppers at Cardone’s
Next from the menu, came the Italian Sausage and Peppers - “Sweet Italian sausage sautéed with a medley of bell peppers, onions, & portabella mushrooms. Tossed with marinara and served with pappardelle.” I really enjoyed this dish. Cardone’s red sauce is just a tad sweet for me but still very enjoyable. The Italian sausage was lovely. I could’ve downed this stuff all night. It’s a good thing I didn’t.
Speaking of vegetarian - here’s the Stuffed Shells at
Cardone’s
For having such a plain name, the Stuffed Shells entree was anything but ordinary - “Large pasta shells stuffed with beef, pork, cheeses & herbs. Baked with marinara sauce.” Again, the marinara is a little on the sweet side but the chef really had a nice combination of flavors going in those stuffed shells.
Berries & Gelato - 3 scoops of chef’s seasonally selected gelato served
with mixed berry compote.
I’m normally not a dessert man but hey, I took one for the blog and managed to stuff down some Gelato. Nothing like some velvety smooth vanilla to ease your worried mind.
I’m still a Guiseppe’s man but Cardone’s impressed. Plus, we got all this and a Caesar salad for 30 bucks. We sat outside so we couldn’t legally have any wine. It’s a bit cramped inside but, who knows, maybe they’ll add a real patio. Outside smoking on east side of building. Watch the tomato plant!
