I recently made my first trip over to Colin’s Coffee in
Upper Arlington. Remember, it’s “Colin” with one
“l” and not Collin’s Coffee with two “l’s.” I
hadn’t been there since it was originally Brewster’s. I was greeted by the
man, himself, Colin Gawel. Colin served me up a cup of their coffee of the day, Veritas
Dark. I was intrigued by the latin name and the java lived up to its moniker.
Despite my effort to dilute it with my normal half and half and sugar combination, the Veritas hit me with its “true” coffee flavor. Of course, I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that I don’t drink the java juice straight up but it didn’t matter. This roast was so flavorful and strong that there was nothing I could do to tone down its full body taste and richness. It hit me kind of strong at first but with each sip, I kept coming back for more.
Previously we had done a coffee review with La Chateleine and Stauf’s coming out on top but Colin’s may require a re-ranking at the top. I need to hit a couple more coffee spots before we do a re-ranking.
One of the prime draws to Colin’s Coffee is the friendly atmosphere. If you are looking to strike up a conversation, there’s always the friendly staff and contingent of regulars ready to engage in some morning/afternoon repartee. Colin’s also offers a health and wellness class every Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. as well as hosts a book club on Saturday evenings.
For a good brew and conversation, Colin’s has that and more.
