Just had my first trip to La Michoacana. I was slightly disapointed. Don't get me wrong, the food was good and CHEAP, and I'll go back (although more for the grocery store). I ordered a tongue taco, spiced pork taco, and two pork tamales.
The tongue taco was a little more mild than I would have expected. Very little beefy tongue taste. Actually, it was more porky. The spiced pork was good. The tortillas were excellent, lots of cilantro, good sour cream. The tamales had great flavor, but were a bit mushy. My companion had a cheesy, oniony, chicken affair with pineapple, chorizo and green peppers. He seemed to enjoy it, but was unimpressed with the beans, claiming that his mother made better.
All in all, I'll go back for more, but maybe dig a little deeper into the menu. The food was cheap, service was great and the atmosphere was decidedly more authentic than any other Mexican joint I've been in here in Columbus.
I did get some great things in the grocery, can't wait to try my hand at some interesting new recipes!
