La Michoacana Mexican Market and Restaurant
Left to fend for myself last night, a friend and I were headed out to Disneyland, err uh, I mean Easton, to pay mucho màs dinero que es necessario for dinner (how’s my Spanish?). Waiting at a light to turn onto Morse Road, there it was – just slightly in the distance – the answer to our late evening dining prayers. In bright lights it read – “La Michoacana” which must mean must cheaper than anything you can find at Disneyland. I’ll verify that later from some Mexican acquaintances.
We entered at the grocery section of the dual use facility and worked our way to the restaurant. As you can tell by the photo, bright colors were sure to whisk away our winter doldrums. The $3 beers helped too ($2 for non-imports). Those were some of the finest Negra Modelos that I’ve ever had. Posted in a foreign language on the wall is some drivel about a 3 drink limit per customer. I’ve never seen that before. Anyhow, two did me just fine that evening.
As per custom, they started us off with chips and salsa at La Michoacana. Tasty but I believe La Casita still holds the number 1 chips and salsa spot in central Ohio. We started digging through the menu and found ourselves looking at the dirt cheap prices for tamales, sopes and gorditas. Note that the tamales and gorditas are homemade. After reviewing the prices, we turned and spit in the general direction of Easton. We were so caught up on the reasonable prices that we forgot to check out the entrees section altogether. I fired up tamales, sopes and a gordita as did my friend. All were very satisfying. I especially loved the corn tortillas and cornbread used in each. We were so enraptured we ordered more beers.
For desert, I ordered the Flan. The waitress brought out what appeared to be a brick of flan. Ay Dios Mio! Luckily, my friend changed his mind on dessert and split the brick of flan with me. It was flantastic!
After paying the bill of a few dollars and change we headed over to the grocery section for a quick looksee. There I found the best deal on a certain spicy sauce (the name of which I will not reveal for fear of them raising the price or some of you buying them out completely) that I’ve seen anywhere. I also picked up a few cans of coconut juice and fruit nectars. It was great! Grocery and restaurant all in one – what a great concept!

Here’s my thoughts on New Taco Tao:
“I drove over here after reading about it on the web. It’s a really dirty truck with a really dirty table. Forget it. ”
On the other hand, Taquikin Taqueria y Loncheria Movil, which is actually on Morse Rd, I said:
“Went back tonight for a couple more taco pastors and an order of refried beans. And tried the roasted jalapenos. They weren’t as hot as I imagined. Also had an orange soda. Very good food. Highly recommended!”
