Looking for some good eats on a Wednesday night, finerepast.com found themselves at the Taj Mahal restaurant – home of North Indian cuisine. I had not eaten there for dinner since they were located a few blocks farther south on High Street. Since that time, they’ve moved into an enormous old house off of High. Now, I’ve been there for their lunch buffet on several occasions. Their lunch buffet is okay – how good can a buffet be anyways? My experience is that they’ve had difficulty keeping things warm at the buffet table, and you don’t want to eat cold Indian food. It’s not pizza after all. Perhaps their buffet has improved since then. But if I’ve learned anything, it’s don’t judge an Indian restaurant by their buffet. Dinner is usually a completely different experience.
I knew I was in for something special when the Samosa came out fresh and hot. Normally, the Samosa seems to be something Indian restaurants pull out of the freezer and heat up. If this Samosa came out of the freezer then the Taj Mahal staff must have paid some extra attention to it. It was damn fine!
From there it was on to the kadhai Lamb (Lamb cooked with onions, tomatoes and green peppers). I was very impressed with this lamb dish – absolutely fantastic! Normally, I succumb to male machismo and order things too spicy at Indian restaurants. This time, I toned it down and I’m glad I did. The Lamb cooked with onions, tomatoes and green peppers was a perfect combination.
I supplemented the meal with the Aloo parntha (Layered butter baked whole wheat bread stuffed with potatoes). Also fresh (which is key with Naan) and tasty. Perhaps a little too buttery for me but still fine eating.
I’ll be back to the Taj Mahal again and again.

Here’s my thoughts on New Taco Tao:
“I drove over here after reading about it on the web. It’s a really dirty truck with a really dirty table. Forget it. ”
On the other hand, Taquikin Taqueria y Loncheria Movil, which is actually on Morse Rd, I said:
“Went back tonight for a couple more taco pastors and an order of refried beans. And tried the roasted jalapenos. They weren’t as hot as I imagined. Also had an orange soda. Very good food. Highly recommended!”
