Shrimp sauteed in garlic and olive oil at Maca Cafe in Powell, Ohio
Located behind what used to be Clara’s store in the center of Powell (I still can’t say downtown Powell) is Maca Cafe. I found myself there to see a local classical guitarist (Karl Wohlwend) who was playing. If memory serves me correctly, Maca Cafe was formerly occupied by one of the many antique stores that use to proliferate in Powell (and may still do). The owners of Maca have put the space to good use by opening a wine and tapas bar, and they definitely have good wine and fine tapas.
| We rounded up the above pictured shrimp, the flatiron steak, the roasted tomato and pesto soup, as well as the peppers stuffed with goat cheese. I could find nary a complaint with any of the tapas that evening. In fact, I could have eaten a couple dozen of the shrimp – melt in your mouth goodness! The leftover olive oil and garlic slivers served our bread and palates well. I also enjoyed the stuffed peppers and the flatiron steak. The roasted tomato and pesto soup (served cold) was out of this world good! Since I didn’t consume a couple dozen shrimp, I could have easily dispatched a few bowls of this stuff. The tomato soup was elegantly seasoned and, despite my preference for hot soup, the temperature added to the flavor. | Rachel Ray’s Great meals for Couples or Crowds |
If you find yourself in Powell definitely stop in and pay a visit to Maca Cafe. A fine repast awaits you.

Here’s my thoughts on New Taco Tao:
“I drove over here after reading about it on the web. It’s a really dirty truck with a really dirty table. Forget it. ”
On the other hand, Taquikin Taqueria y Loncheria Movil, which is actually on Morse Rd, I said:
“Went back tonight for a couple more taco pastors and an order of refried beans. And tried the roasted jalapenos. They weren’t as hot as I imagined. Also had an orange soda. Very good food. Highly recommended!”
