Northstar Cafe’s Meatload Sandwich
FineRepast headed off to the Clintonville branch of the Northstar Cafe. It’s nice to see a good restaurant test the C-ville dining, albeit shark-infested, waters. I say this because I’ve seen many a restaurant go under despite only being in 3 feet deep waters near the beach (just where you thought it would still be safe), e.g., rumor has it that Mozart’s Indianola location is no longer serving the public. I’ll verify this shortly (this doesn’t mean that Mozart’s went under either. Another source indicates that this location is still open for dinner.)
Anywho, at the Northstar, I sampled the Meatload sandwich. When it came out, I couldn’t stop eating the side salad that came with it. My companion claimed it had cilantro in it as well as some peanuts (perhaps?), and it was very fresh. After grazing for 15 or so minutes, I turned my attention to the Meatload sandwich, and it was a load of meat. The bun was fresh as were the veggie toppings. The meat seemed of a quality more deserving than it’s final end in the Meatloaf Sandwich. I also really liked the mustard added to the sauce.

I tried to wash this all done with Northstar’s carrot, ginger, orange juice tonic. This was one of the few freshly squeezed veggie/juice combos that I would come back for on a regular basis. It may have also had a touch of lemon juice in it as well. This was a perfectly blended concoction of very complementary juices. Someone spent some time into thinking this one out in advance.
Overall, a fine repast was had at the Northstar Cafe. Perhaps a bit pricey for lunch but you won’t leave hungry. Ohh, I especially love their utilitarian website!

Here’s my thoughts on New Taco Tao:
“I drove over here after reading about it on the web. It’s a really dirty truck with a really dirty table. Forget it. ”
On the other hand, Taquikin Taqueria y Loncheria Movil, which is actually on Morse Rd, I said:
“Went back tonight for a couple more taco pastors and an order of refried beans. And tried the roasted jalapenos. They weren’t as hot as I imagined. Also had an orange soda. Very good food. Highly recommended!”
