In search of a pleasant patio on a summer night, my companion and I found ourselves at La Casita on Bethel Road in Columbus, Ohio. Be wary of the harmless looking chips and salsa. Of all the mexican restaurants in town, the salsa here makes an honest claim at being the best although La Hacienda Real serves up a fine salsa as well. Infused with cilantro, La Casita’s salsa keeps your reaching for the chips. If they provided spoons, I would just ladle it up sans chips. Heck, maybe I should just drink it right out of the bowl. Be wary because it’s easy to go through a few baskets of chips with this stuff near at hand. Ay Carumba!

Not sure where to begin, I asked the waiter for his recommendations. He promptly pointed out El Amigo which is the mexican version of the Happy Family – shrimp, steak, chicken, and chorizo in a creamy sauce. Although the steak was nothing special to look at, it was surprisingly tender and tasty. The chorizo and shrimp were equally delightful. The chicken was okay. In the end, expectations don’t run too high for food that took a few minutes to prepare.

What keeps people coming back is the patio at La Casita (as well as the friendly service). Located just off Bethel Road, you would think that any patio would die a slow death; however, the traffic noise is tolerable and it’s great to watch the sun set over the Speedway station (that’s why so many young couples frequent the patio at La Casita). They even have a water feature with fountain!

Here’s my thoughts on New Taco Tao:
“I drove over here after reading about it on the web. It’s a really dirty truck with a really dirty table. Forget it. ”
On the other hand, Taquikin Taqueria y Loncheria Movil, which is actually on Morse Rd, I said:
“Went back tonight for a couple more taco pastors and an order of refried beans. And tried the roasted jalapenos. They weren’t as hot as I imagined. Also had an orange soda. Very good food. Highly recommended!”
