I am curious to see what you avid coffee drinkers out there think of the local coffee shops in Columbus. I personally have very specific coffee tastes, but after giving it some thought, I would have to vote Stauf’s of Grandview into first place for the most consistent brew. Plus, I like their atmosphere, and the variety of coffees and teas available for purchase. Their staff is friendly, and aims to please.

Taking second place is La Chatelaine in Worthington. They have a weekly flavored coffee (this week’s is “chocolate marshmallow”) that is changed every Wednesday, or so, but they also have French Roast and other brews on a regular basis. For white coffee drinkers, your choices are milk, or cream (don’t you love the French…”all or nothing”) but theoretically, you could make your own half and half on the premises. Save for the owner, and her daughter, the staff otherwise comes off a little disheveled and disorganized.

Stauf’s sister shop, Cup o’Joe has some good brews, but the one in Clintonville is much more consistent than the one at Lennox. Sadly, at the latter, I have had to wait for my brew more than once or twice when I was on my way to the office, and several times discovered coffee grains in the bottom of my cup.

Starbuck’s works well for the espresso, or cold coffee drinks, but I personally find their regular brew a little bitter for my tastes (I told you that I had specific tastes!)

I am not sure what the deal is with Caribou. Nothing spectacular for me, and the pinching costs on the coffee cups to go is a bit of a turnoff. I have had several coffee cups explode on me because they weren’t strong enough to hold the coffee, despite my seasoned ability to carry a cup of coffee! Thus, I discovered that the coffee was scalding hot. Because I work with my hands, I can’t afford to have those kinds of accidents, and have ceased to frequent that establishment.

Have I covered all the major coffee venues?
