I went to lunch to the Hacienda Real today which is located off of Sinclair Road near Morse and I-71. I ordered the Pollo Ranchero which consists of boneless chicken breast, refried beans and sauteed onions and green peppers. Like other mexican restaurants in Columbus, the Hacienda is cheap and has quick service. The food is okay. The sauteed onions and green peppers were extremely salty. I may just be very sensitive to salty dishes. The chicken was maybe a bit overdone. They probably cook a lot of chicken right before lunch and then reheat it before being served. I’m not sure but that would explain its somewhat bland taste. I try to avoid the refried beans as a lot of restaurants use the refried beans with lard mixed in or that are very high in fat. Overall, the Hacienda is okay and generally capitalizes on its good and cheap and quick approach.

I had a love affair with Hacienda Real, but it is over. Especially since Arturo the singer disappeared. I haven’t found a really good Mexican restaurant here in Columbus, but then again, my California roots probably make me a snob when it comes to this kind of thing. The best guacamole is actually at Chipotles with their lime sprayed chips for 2 bucks. Try this if you haven’t already, but beware, it is addictive! luv2dine
